    <DESCRIPTION>Protocols: Two groups of six RMs were immunized with either the attenuated SIVDnef virus (group 1, SIV), which establishes a persistent low-level infection and induces protective immunity against high dose challenges with SIVmac, or with two doses of an AdHu5 vector expressing Gag of SIVmac239 (AdHu5gag) (group 2, AD), that was given at a two-month interval with the first dose given at the time of the SIVDnef inoculation to group 1. All RMs were challenged with ten weekly intra-rectal low-doses of SIVmac251 at a week interval starting nine months after the initial vaccination. During this period and for an additional eight weeks afterwards viral loads were measured by RT-PCR. Number of weeks after the first challenge when positive viral load was detected was used as FirstPostiveViralLoad factor. PBMC from whole blood were isolated using Ficoll gradient.</DESCRIPTION>
