      <STUDY_TITLE>Effects of Pseudomonas protegens CHA0 volatilome against Heterobasidion abietinum</STUDY_TITLE>
      <STUDY_TYPE existing_study_type="Other"/>
      <STUDY_ABSTRACT>We discovered that volatile compounds of several bacterial species inhibit the growth of most Basidiomycete species in vitro. Also, anti-Basidiomycete volatiles were produced by bacteria only when they grew on media containing digested proteins (e.g. Luria-Bertani agar; LBA) but they did not when they grew on potato dextrose agar (PDA). Using Pseudomonas protegens strain CHA0 and Heterobasidion abietinum as a model system, we investigate the effect and the mechanisms of the bacterial volatilome on fungal development. Hence, the transcriptome of H. abietinum exposed for 12 hours to CHA0 grown on LBA was compared to the transcriptome of the fungus exposed for 12 hours to CHA0 grown on PDA.</STUDY_ABSTRACT>
