Surface water samples were collected by Lee County Environmental Lab in Fort Myers, Florida. Genomic DNA from individual samples was extracted from filtered samples in the lab and sent to the University of Hawaii Advanced Studies in Genomics, Proteomics, and Bioinformatics for library preparation and metagenomic sequencing using Illumina MiSeq platform.
