<STUDY_ABSTRACT>The goal of this project is to characterize the peaola microbiome (pea and canola intercropped) to understand how it changes from pea and canola monoculture. To do this we have performed Illumina amplicon sequencing of the 16S V4 region. Diversity metrics, taxonomic classification, the core microbiome, and community structure were analyzed. Understanding how the microbiome is changed by the peaola intercropping system provides us with insights into how the microbiome contributes to the success of this intercrop. This understanding of the microbiome will allow us to create more successful intercrops and can be applied to conservation and restoration work.</STUDY_ABSTRACT>
