<STUDY_ABSTRACT>Brucella cytisi ESC1 (formerly Ochrobactrum) is a Gram-negative, fast-growing coccobacillus belonging to the Brucellaceae family. These symbiotic bacteria were isolated from the root nodules of Cytisus scoparius. B. cytisi ESC1 is also a microsymbiont of alfalfa. The Brucella genus includes both symbiotic and pathogenic species, as well as bacteria capable of accumulating and biodegrading toxic compounds. Therefore, these bacteria constitute an interesting research model.</STUDY_ABSTRACT>
