Many microorganisms utilize organic pollutants as sole carbon and energy source and contribute to the metabolism of these compounds. The diversity of the microbial populations and their functional genes involved in xenobiotic degradation in a contaminated environment is yet to be understood completely. Pesticide contaminated soil represent a pool of microbial assemblages which may harbor functional capacity for an ecologically significant process such as bioremediation. The metagneome analysis of the soil sample collected from different areas surrounding the chlorinated pesticide manufacturing unit would help in understanding the microbial populations and their functional genes involved in degradation process of organic pollutants in such sites.</DESCRIPTION>
