<STUDY_ABSTRACT>We used whole genome sequencing techniques to sample the mitochondrial genomes of Bank voles (Myodes glareolus) residing within the radioactive zone surrounding Chernobyl and samples from reference sites in Ukraine not contaminated by radiation. The goal of this study was to determine if voles living in radioactive environments had increased levels of genetic variation within the mitochondria compared to reference samples.</STUDY_ABSTRACT>
