<STUDY_ABSTRACT>In many clades of cicadas (Insecta: Hemiptera: Cicadidae), their bacterial nutritional endosymbiont Candidatus Hodgkinia cicadicola has evolved into complexes of genetically and cytologically distinct, interdependent lineages. We studied the diversity and transmission of these lineages by sequencing the Hodgkinia protein-coding gene amplicons from multiple adult individuals as well as eggs. The current BioProject contains the data that have been used to validate the amplicon sequencing assay. BioSamples in this BioProject correspond to biological or technical amplicon sequencing replicates for the same cicada specimen.</STUDY_ABSTRACT>
