    <DESCRIPTION>Dormant fertile P. deltoides branches were collected from mature trees in January of 2013. Branches from the male P. nigra individual were forced in greenhouse conditions and pollen collected and desiccated, and stored at 4ºC prior to being irradiated. Gamma irradiation was performed as follows: Dried pollen from male Populus nigra trees was transferred to scintillation vials and subjected to 50 or 100 Gy of gamma irradiation using a JL Shepherd Model 143-68 Irradiator (Center for Comparative Medicine, UC Davis, CA).</DESCRIPTION>
