Total RNA was purified with RNeasy micro kit. A total of 12 ng of axonal total RNA and 1 microg of SD total RNA with the use of a SMART-Seq v4 Ultra Low Input RNA Kit (Clontech) and a TruSeq RNA stranded mRNA Sample Prep Kit (Illumina), respectively. Libraries were clonally amplified on a flow cell and sequenced on a HiSeq2500 (HiSeq Control Software v2.2.58, Illumina) with a 51-mer single-end sequence. Cufflinks (ver. 2.2.1) was used to estimate the gene expression level on the basis of fragments per kilobase of the exon model per million mapped fragments (FPKM) (Trapnell et al., 2013).
