Briefly, electrical stimulation was applied by inserting two electrodes (0.5 mm diameter) into the cell mass and connecting them to a solar panel under a fluorescent lamp. Untreated grape cultured cells were used as control. Koshu were subjected to electrical stimulation. Total RNA isolation from the cell mass was performed with a Fruit-mate for RNA Purification (Takara, Otsu, Japan), followed by a NucleoSpin RNA Plant (Takara). Biotin-labeled cRNA synthesis using GeneChip 3IVT PLUS Reagent Kit (Affymetrix) was performed according to the manufacturer instructions. Hybridization using GeneChip Hybridization, Wash and Stain Kit (Affymetrix) was performed according to the manufacturer instructions. Signal detection using GeneChip Scanner 3000 7G (Affymetrix) was performed according to the manufacturer instructions.
