description Strain R849 was derived from strain F; the gamma1 34.5 gene was deleted and LacZ gene was inserted. HF is naturally occurring mutant of HSV-1. A clone of HF, HF10 has mutations in TRL and IRL. The decreased pathogenicity of HF10 seems to be ascribed to the deletion of UL56. This time, simultaneous infection of Vero cell with R849 and HF produced a novel variant virus, RH2. Genomic analysis of RH2 revealed that it had LacZ instead of gamma1 34.5 and acquired highly fusogenic potential. It produced large plaques in oral squamous cell carcinoma, than the parental strain HF. RH2 is considered to be a oncolytic virus vector suitable for the treatment of oral squamous cell carcinoma, because of low neurovuirence and high anti-tumor ability. none provided
