title The NBRC Genome Sequencing Project for Pollutant-degrading bacteria
description The microbial biodegradation of pollutants is attracting attention to find feasible ways to clean-up contaminated environments. This project plans to sequence the genomes of bacteria with the ability to degrade chemical compounds including trichloroethene, petroleum hydrocarbons, polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), polycyclic aromatic compounds (PACs), etc. The genome information is expected to give new insights into key metabolic pathways and bacterial adaptation to degrade chemicals. The sequence data will be released to the society through the NBRC web site (http://www.bio.nite.go.jp/ngac/e/project_wgs-e.html) and DDBJ/EMBL/GeneBank databases.
