title shogun metagenomic analysis in HKU
description The aim of the study was to analyze bacterial communities and pathogenic bacteria in water samples using shotgun metagenomic analysis. A total of 10 water samples were collected in the Sapporo campus of Hokkaido University on October 16th, 2012. Eight samples were collected from different points along the Sakushukotoni stream (HKU_A, HKU_B, HKU_C, HKU_E, HKU_F, HKU_G, HKU_H, HKU_I, and HKU_J), one sample was collected Ohno Pond, (HKU_D), and another sample was collected from Hyotan Pond (HKU_J). Bacterial cells were concentrated using a filtration technique with four pore-sizes of membrane filters: 100 um, 10 um, 5 um, and 0.22 um. The libraries were prepared using Illumina MIseq sequencer and reads were used for further analysis. We anticipated that the results of this analysis could be used to evaluate the risk of pathogen infection from water in these environments.
