organism Mammuthus primigenius
title Whole Genome Sequencing of Mammoth
description The woolly mammoth (Mammuthus primigenius) is the most iconic terrestrial herbivore in the Late Pleistocene. Using DNA extracted from the woolly mammoth excavated in Siberian permafrost, we have sequenced to high coverage the genome. This project aims to examine questions related to adaptive evolution and extinction of the woolly mammoth that experienced dramatic climatic changes with the goal of deciphering molecular basis of mammoth specific phenotypes.
