description Arabidopsis lyrata ssp. petraea is a close relative of the best studied model plant A. thaliana. Recently (~20,000 - 250,000 ya) A. lyrata ssp. petraea hybridised with A. halleri ssp. gemmifera to form tetraploid A. kamchatica. Obtained mate-pair libraries along with previously published pair-end libraries were used to assemble and annotate the genome sequence. The assembly was subsequently employed to study nucleotide polymorphisms and population genetics in A. kamchatica.
