title The transcriptome analyses of shell and dart formation in Euhadra quaesita
description To understand the molecular mechanisms of shell formation and dart formation, we performed the transcriptome analysis using next-generation sequencing technology (Ion PGM). We constructed cDNA library for transcriptome using RNA samples that were extracted from the mantle and dart sac tissues of land snail Euhadra quaesita. This transcriptome data were used for proteome analysis (LC-MS/MS) of shell matric proteins and dart matrix proteins. Comparisons of shell matrix proteins between the two terrestrial snail species, E. quaesita and Cepaea nemoralis, and other marine molluscs made it possible to provide important insights to understand the kind of shell matrix preoteins that had evolved in the common ancestor of these two terrestrial snails. Furthermore, we analyzed the dart matrix proteins of E. quaesita, and compared them with molluscan shell matrix proteins to infer whether the dart matrix proteins genes have evolved by gene co-option or they represent novel genes.
