Characterization of VanA and VanM-type VRE |

This study was performed to characterize VanA and VanM-type vancomycin-resistant E. faecium (VRE) strain obtained in Japan. VanM-type vancomycin-resistant bacteria, which also produce the peptidoglycan precursor ending in D-alanyl-D-lactate, was first reported in 2010. Until now, VanM-type VREs were only isolated in China and Singapore. In Shanghai, the VanM-type VRE was more prevalent than VanA-type VRE. This VanA and VanM-type VRE was isolated from a > 60 year-old patient in Japan. To determine the genetic structure, whole genome sequence using Illumina Miseq and Nanopore Minion was performed for this strain. Illumina data and Nanopore data were assembled de novo using Unicycler. DFAST and RAST were used for annotation. |
