title Streptomyces albus DSM41398 genome had been fully sequenced using PacBio and 454 technologies and assembled into a single contig.
description Streptomyces albus DSM41398 genome had been sequenced using 454 and PacBio technologies and contains an extra 975Kbp of sequence compared to the published draft of the related strain NBRC 13014. The pacbio assembly had been currated using the 454 data, and ~20 point differences had been found and currated. Also according to pacbio and 454 coverage plots this genome contains nearly 200KB telomeric duplication. According to the antismash v3 it contains 40 secondary metabolite clusters, including salinomycin. Salinomycin has attracted strong renewed interest owing to its potent and selective activity against cancer stem cells and cancer cell lines. Provision of the complete and accurate genome sequence is very important for accurate elucidation of the large PKS typeI multienzyme systems, that are often repetitive and not assembled correctly in the draft genomes.
