title Genomic resources for wild type populations of the house mouse (Mus musculus) and its close relative Mus spretus
description The house mouse (Mus musculus) has served since more than 100 years as a model system in genetics and biomedical research. The unique combination of genetic and molecular knowledge derived from the laboratory mouse strains and the deep knowledge of the rich evolutionary history make Mus musculus a prime model for the study of the evolution and molecular biology of natural populations. We provide here genomic resources that can serve as a basis of in depth studies at a population level and to inform biomedical research projects on natural polymorphisms in their strains. All genomic sequences are based on samples from populations from the wild, following a dedicated sampling scheme. Here we report the whole range of variation among the wild type mouse populations including SNPs, INDELs and CNVs as well as the transcriptome variation.
