Arthrogryposis multiplex congenital (AMC) is a syndromic term for a condition characterized by congenital joint contracture (arthrogryposis) of multiple joints involving more than just one part of the body. AMC is usually considered generalized thus involving joints of both the spine and the limbs. AMC is not a specific diagnosis, but rather a descriptive term as it may be caused by a wide range of disorders in the brain, spinal cord, peripheral nerves, muscles and connective tissue as well as space limiting diseases of the pregnant uterus such as oligohydramnios. |
