The Americas were the last continents to be colonized by humans, and many questions about the sources, number and timing of the initial migrations remain unanswered, as do questions about later events in prehistory. This project will generate genotype and sequence information across the genomes of Native American population samples to investigate the peopling of the Americas and subsequent demographic and selective events within the continent from a genetic perspective. The genetic variants the project discovers will also be used for medically- and phenotypically-relevant studies in these populations. |
