Gametocytogenesis in the Plasmodium spp. is a critical step for life cycle completion. Comparative genome sequence analysis of the gametocyte non-producer lines of P. berghei ANKA and their isogenic gametocyte producer ancestors especially of those generated de novo are expected to reveal differences at the genome sequence level that can be causally associated to gametocyte production.
