organism Plasmodium vivax North Korean
title Plasmodium vivax North Korean genome sequencing project
description The North Korean strain survives the long winters as a quiescent hypnozoite stage in the liver of the primate host. Once the resting hypnozoite is reactivated, with an ensuing erythrocytic stage infection in late spring, mosquitoes can be infected and successful transmission to a new host achieved. Thus, this strain is considered of the long relapse type.
