title Transcriptome profile of healthy horn tissue in Kankrej Bullock
description Carcinoma of Horn is only reported in Bos indicus. Horn Cancer affect 1% of cattle population. Common in bullock (95%) followed by cow (5%) and rare in bull. In India two thirds of the total energy input in farming is derived from bullocks. The condition is mostly seen in working bullocks at the prime of their life and adversely affects the health of the animals by reducing the working capacity and proves ultimately fatal. Kankrej bullocks are found to be most susceptible to cancer of horn. A representative sample of healthy horn tissue was collected in RNAlater (Sigma) from a Kankrej bullock, and stored in liquid nitrogen. Tissue sample was examined by histopathology which confirmed no malignant changes in healthy horn tissue.
