title Transcriptome profile of cancerous horn tissue in Kankrej Bullock
description Carcinoma of Horn is only reported in Bos indicus. Horn Cancer affect 1% of cattle population. Common in bullock (95%) followed by cow (5%)and rare in bull. In India two thirds of the total energy input in farming is derived from bullocks. The condition is mostly seen in working bullocks at the prime of their life and adversely affects the health of the animals by reducing the working capacity and proves ultimately fatal. Kankrej bullocks are found to be most susceptible to cancer of horn. A representative sample of cancerous horn tissue was collected in RNAlater (Sigma) from a clinically affected Kankrej bullock, and stored in liquid nitrogen. Tissue samples were examined by histopathology which confirmed malignant changes in the horn cancer tissue.
